If you haven’t already left town for your summer vacation, chances are you will very soon. Packing for stays of a week or more can be challenging especially if you are like me and only bring one carry-on piece of luggage and your handbag. Before you flip-out about the possibility of not getting everything in one bag, take a deep breath and I will walk you through the editing of your wardrobe for your perfect summer vacation.
Choose a Palate—when you start pulling clothes for your vacation, keep in mind that everything you pack should work with everything else you pack. With this in mind, lay all your possibilities out on the floor (yes, the floor, your perspective will be much better if you can take in your entire wardrobe with one glance). For summer always begin with a foundation of black and white and then throw in other colors, keeping in mind that everything can be mixed and matched. Personally, the palate that works best for me this time of year is shades of blue and grey with a dash of pink.
Pants: black, white, blue
Skirts: black and grey/ white print
Tunic: white (can be worn over bathing suit or with pants)
T-shirts: black, white, grey, blue/grey print
Blouse: pink and black/white print
Tank: black, white and blue
Dress: black/white print and blue
Cardigan: black, pink and grey
Evening bag: white
Bathing suit: go wild
Shoes: sandals, keds, great looking wedge for walking and another pair for going out. Throw in a pair of flip-flops for the beach and you are ready for take-off.
Trench Coat: Cream (white gets too dirty and a trench is a big item to clean on vacation)
A Big Scarf: blue
Jewelry: not a lot
Hat: one that is scrunchable
Lingerie: Nude and black bra, black and white cami and 6 pair of underwear— plan on doing some hotel room washing.
Pack Smart—wear your heaviest pieces on the plane sans the heels (you’ve got a long flight).
That would look something like this:
Trench, scarf, black pants, printed T, grey cardigan and big black handbag. As far as jewelry, wear your best pieces.
Essential Toiletries—make sure your bottles are 3.4 ounces or less and pack then in a quart-sized zip-lock bag. Don’t sweat it if you can’t get everything in there as you can always pick-up essentials when you arrive at your destination.
Eat well, laugh a lot, travel safe and be chic!
