It was another crazy year of fashion trends. The bad news is, like the ghost of Christmas past, we will forever be reminded of our fashion sins because of the camera on our phones (oh yes, someone took a picture of you in those tight and shiny skinny pants). But with sin comes redemption. We must never fall victim to the following again.
Over-the-Knee Boots: Unless you are 6’ tall with slim legs, you should pass on this look. If your legs are short, they will only look shorter but most of all these boots are impractical unless you’re on your way to an S&M event. Stick with boots that stop right below the knee as they are the most flattering on everyone.
Crop Tops and Acid Wash: Least I remind you that the 80s were not the antithesis of fabulous fashion?—think of Madonna in Desperately Seeking Susan. Why must we repeat mistakes of the past?
Shiny-Skinny Pants: Unless you are a back-up dancer for Beyoncé, you have no business wearing anything tight and shiny anywhere on your body, ever!
Wide Horizontal Stripes: They were so “in” for 2013 that we convinced ourselves that they were flattering and did not make us look bigger. Some of the same rules that are true in home decorating apply to fashion. Why do decorators use linear lines in decorating? Because the long, vertical lines make the room look longer and more elegant. Do you ever see wide awning stripes running horizontally on drapes? Case closed.
The award for the absolute worst trend goes to:
Fast Fashion: Why, oh why would we buy something that is meant to physically fall apart and quickly fall out of fashion?
Eat well, laugh a lot and have a happy and chic new year!
