The other day as I was getting dressed, I noticed my bra straps where showing. “No problem” I thought. I grabbed a couple of safety pins and viola, my bra straps were sitting perfectly, hidden by my top. Through the years I have come up with a few quick fixes when it comes to getting out the door looking pulled together. Sometimes all it takes are some safety pins, paper clips and a marker.
There are tops that require a special bra to sit seamlessly under your clothing. The problem can be that we don’t always have the right bra for that special top. To easily convert your bra to a racer-back top, grab a large paper clip, loosen the straps of the bra and thread the paper clip through the two straps.
A wide neckline can present problems, the biggest problem of which is that the the top can fall off the shoulder leaving you constantly fidgeting with keeping your top from sliding. The other problem can be that the bra straps sit narrower than the top. If you have the time the best thing to do is to have a seamstress or tailor add lingerie hooks to the shoulder seam. The lingerie straps allow you to place your bra strap into the shoulder. If you don’t have time then grab a couple of small safety pins, run the pin through the seam allowance of the shoulder seam and catch the bra straps into the pin.
Sometimes I struggle zipping up my dress, however, with just a few paper clips I am out the door. Thread one, two or three paper clips together and then thread one of the ends of the paper clip through the ring that holds the zipper pull and zipper together.
My favorite patent leather heels are slightly torn up with all the years of getting the heels caught in grates or sidewalk grooves. Grab some nail polish in the closest color to your heels and paint in the areas that are damaged. With all the new nail polish colors available, it should be easy to find a match. However, if you have shoes that are not patent and are missing their color, nail polish won’t work. If your shoes are metallic gold or silver get out your metallic magic maker and run the marker evenly over the areas needing a touch-up.
