Fashion is fickle. One day cropped tops are a must-have and the next day it’s long tunics that are the latest trend. There is a sense of urgency that comes over us when we hear that “everyone” is wearing this or that. In addition, this sense of urgency is amplified when we notice people around us wearing the same style. But then just as quickly that trend everyone was wearing for a hot second is nowhere to be found.
It’s not easy to decipher which trends are worth the investment when we read fashion articles like this one, “Everyone Will Be Wearing Western Boots This Fall.” It’s easy to fall prey to such pronouncements. But before you set out to buy a pair, first consider if you even like cowboy boots. Second, if being trendy is your motivation for dressing ask yourself, “Will everyone really be wearing western boots this fall?
Headlines such as these are meant to inspire us to be a part of something greater than ourselves. And that my friends is the exclusive world of fashion. The rallying cry that “everyone” will be wearing western boots simply triggers our desire to be a part of the fabulous fashion world. It’s a call to action—wear cowboy boots and you are someone fashionable. If you don’t wear cowboy boots you are not. At least that is the underlining message.
In 2018 Buzzfeed reported that tube tops were back in style along with shell jewelry and corduroy in their article, “These Are The 19 Fashion Trends That Everyone Will Be Finishing This Year Out With.” In the same year Forbes Magazine declared we would all be wearing flared jeans in their article,”The 7 Denim Trends Everyone Will Be Wearing This Fall.”
But that was the past. It’s time to unpack the future of fashion and its declarations. This time we look to the Huffington Post for what “Everyone Needs For Fall” in 2019.
I am a huge fan of Megan Rapinoe and was happy to see her on the cover of InStyle Magazine. Megan along with her partner are exquisitely styled wearing excessively oversized pants. However, everyone does not need a pair of big-ass pants. Except for the confident fashion plate my guess is everyone will not be wearing them. What you will see on the streets are pants that are a departure from the skinny silhouette that has been proliferating our closets.
Hmm? Hasn’t tie-dyed clothing been trying to make a splashy comeback into the fashion scene for sometime now? I am not convinced tie-dye will be a huge trend this year. However, I am sure that not everyone loves it but if you do wear it!
~Animal Prints That Are Not Leopard
Animal prints have never completely disappeared from the fashion scene and from what I am seeing in textile markets they will be around for years to come. Think of animal prints as a neutral and wear them with just about anything.
~Cardigans As Shirts
I am sure we have all done this but buttoning our cardigan is now a thing and I am all for it!
I love the idea of white booties for fall as much I love the idea of wearing a plush cream coat in the cold months. As a matter of fact I recently was inspired to have one made after seeing a photo of a woman standing in ankle deep snow wrapped in a light eggshell colored cashmere coat. I still love it but wear it infrequently because after a few wears I am looking at a $35 dry cleaning bill.
Whites and similar light colors get dirty very quickly and require a lot of care. If white boots are a must for you make sure to have them properly sprayed with a protective coating often and never wear them when it’s raining, snowing, or on muddy streets.
Every year for many years now plaids have been anointed a key trend. In fact plaid which has been popular since the grunge movement of the 90s has never completely disappeared. Plaids range from large patterns to small patterns and bold color combinations to subtle color combinations. Choose wisely.
Hurray for suitings! I am not sure everyone needs one but if you love the look of a pantsuit make sure to have it properly tailored. The popularity for this classic look has been trending since 2016 women and has never gone out of style for men. Now it looks as though pantsuits are here to stay for all genders.
~Bowls of Oatmeal
Oatmeal, tan, and dark beige are the color family everyone will be wearing this Fall just like last Fall, the Fall before, and so on.
Combat boots have been a popular street style item for many years—think Doc Martins. But plenty of well-known brands like YSL and Prada have been showcasing them for years. This Fall has just about every brand from high to low offering us different versions on the same theme. My wish is that this trend lasts forever.
As far as the western boots that everyone will be wearing this Fall, I’ll let this quote by Mary Kay Olsen sum up my thoughts when it comes to styling your cowboy boots, “There is a photo of me with weird sunglasses on and a green sweatshirt, some striped thing, with tights and cowboy boots . . . I just saw that photo and thought, God I look crazy.”
Eat well, laugh a lot, and be chic!
